Garden Design Brief
One of the main issues our client faced was that he wanted shelter from the strong winds that blew in from the surrounding hills. To address this we designed a garden that incorporated several features that would turn the garden into a usable space.
Landscaping & Construction
This project consists of three zoned tiers designed to complement the converted barn house on the property.
The top tier uses reclaimed Yorkshire stone which then steps down into a sheltered BBQ area, paved with sawn sandstone flags, which introduce a more contemporary look to the garden. Under the shelter of the bespoke pergola, we constructed an outdoor kitchen with storage and shelving, which makes this area a practical and pleasant space for entertaining. The lower tier consists of softwood decking and a horizontal slatted screen. The whole garden area is framed by reclaimed railway sleeper planters which are in keeping with the rustic style of the nearby farm house and converted barn.
The planting in the project was designed to be simple and easy-to-maintain due to our client's busy work schedule, so we used various grasses, hedging and hardy plants that would be able to withstand the exposed location of the garden.
