There could be many different reasons you would benefit from a garden design. In this post, we’re going to discuss what’s involved in a FirstLight garden design, and why it’s worth considering.

What is garden design?

While this might seem like a simple question with an easy answer, it definitely worth clarifying if you’ve never used a design service before, because different designers may have varying ideas of what “garden design” should entail.

Garden design is the process of designing and creating images and layouts of your ideal garden, based on consultations we have with you about your needs and ideal space. By asking specific questions about what you’d like to use your garden for, and what styles or gardens you already like, our trained designers offer professional advice and create layout options based on your needs and wants.

For our designers, it’s about connecting you and your garden in a way that’s going to make a difference in your life. We want your garden to be something you love looking at, and enjoy being in. That’s what garden design means to the team here at FirstLight Landscaping.

Why would you need a garden design?

We’ve touched on a couple of reasons you might need a garden design, but here are a few more that might resonate with you.

  1. You need to landscape your garden but have no idea where to start.
Perhaps you’ve been planning on landscaping your garden for some time, and looking out of the window on your small, overgrown forest fills you with anxiety...because you just don’t know where to begin. If that’s the case, you’re not alone. Many of our customers use our design service to kickstart the entire landscaping process, and find what they’re looking for.
  2. You know what features you’d like, but want professional advice on materials and layout.
You might already have a list of features you’d like your new garden to have: maybe you’d like a water feature, a mixture of decking and grass, a tiled area, or space to grow things! That’s a great place to start, and a professional garden designer will be able to advise you on the best layout for the things you’d like. They’ll also explain the pros and cons of using certain materials for your personal circumstances, budget and location. For example, maybe you’d like space for plants or vegetables, but your current ground quality or layout would make this difficult. Our professional designers would be able to suggest creative ways to incorporate your ideas, while working around any limitations of your space.
  3. You want peace of mind that your project will be finished within your budget.
Not only does a garden design takes into account your garden goals, but also your overall budget. Before designing your garden, we ask what your budget is, as there’s no point in us designing something almost royal in scale if it’s not what you’d planned to spend.
Additionally, because we’re able to design your garden based on your total outdoor space (which we measure), and the materials and features you want to use, we can account for just about every cost that’s going to come up. The final design truly is representative of what you want to spend, your ideal garden, and everything that’s going to go into making that a reality.
